Every golf day in the fall is a gift to be enjoyed, according to those of us who live to chase that little white ball around the course. We may need a special “leaf rule” and wear two (or three) extra layers of clothing against the wind, but autumn golf is great. Courses aren’t as crowded, the brisk air is invigorating, and the golf can be a real bargain!
Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook offers a can’t-beat rate of $39 for an 18-hole round through November 30. The special value rate is good Mondays after 1 PM, Tuesday through Friday anytime, and even Saturdays and Sundays after 11:30 AM. You’ll need every club in your bag to get around the spectacular 9-hole course (play it twice for a full 18), and enjoy every minute of it.
Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch? At Patriot Hills in Stony Point, you can play golf on the exhilarating course with a cart for $67 and if you tee off before noon Monday through Friday you get lunch free! Reserve tee times at www.patriothillsgolfclub.com and check out the other web-only price specials while you’re at it.
Pound Ridge GC may be a bit pricey for some, but fall rates make it easy to experience this fabulous Pet Dye design after October 31. You can play for $150 any day before 1 PM and $100 any day after 1 PM and the rate includes cart and range privileges as well. The course is a unique Westchester track with some challenges unique to the mind of the guy who created the island green at TPC Sawgrass.
There are plenty of other places to enjoy autumn golf in our area. The six Westchester County courses will be open, weather permitting, until December 31. Who knows, maybe I’ll see you on the tee at Saxon Woods on New Year’s Eve!
