The sun’s vitamin D can make you feel healthy and rejuvenated. But with high temps and humidity, it can be difficult to maintain a flawless look. No one wants to sweat off perfectly applied makeup. Makeup artist Ashley L. Cermele, owner of Ashley Lauren Beauty Lounge, in Tuckahoe, gives expert advice on how to look polished while not melting in this heat.
1. Lighten Up
While summer is the time for lighter clothes, it is also the time for lighter makeup. Cermele says, “Less is more. Lighter application will help you achieve the fresh skin look.”
2. Let Your Jewelry Be Your Shimmering Accessory.
To minimize a shiny face, Cermele advises, “For the summer heat, use an oil control/anti-shine primer to stay matte all day.” Her go-to? Cover FX Mattifying Primer.
3. Screen More Than Just Your Calls
It’s no secret that sunscreen can help preserve youthful-looking skin and protect against harmful sunrays. Cermele recommends opting for a tinted moisturizer with an SPF, suggesting Laura Mercier.
4. The Proof Is in the Pooling
After a hot day, there is nothing more refreshing than jumping in the pool. But raccoon eyes? No thanks. Cermele says it is worth investing in a great waterproof mascara like Too Faced’s Better than Sex.
5. Get Some Color
Now’s the time to experiment with playful lip colors. Cermele recommends a sheer lip color that is “light and bright to pull your whole look together.” Becca Lush Lip Colour Balm in Black Violet is one of her summer favorites. “[It] looks extremely dark but it is very sheer [and] full of color.”
