On Tuesday, November 8, registered Westchesterites took to the polls to select their choice candidates for president and vice president, United States senator, and representatives to U.S. Congress, state Senate and state Assembly. Since polls across the Hudson Valley have been closed, the results have been rolling in all morning. Check out some notable results below, from Lohud’s election database:
President
- As many already know, Republican nominee Donald Trump has won the presidency, taking 276 electoral votes and 47% of the popular vote, 59,447,731 votes. Hillary Clinton took 228 of the electoral votes and also 48% of the popular vote, coming in with 59,654,369 votes. According to CNN, Clinton conceded to Trump in a phone call as the Republican candidate broke the 270 electoral college threshold with a Wisconsin win.
- In Westchester, Clinton won 245,670 out of 378,506 votes (64.9 %), Trump 121,643 (32.1 %), Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson won 7,185, and Green party candidate Jill Stein won 4,008 votes.

Congress
- Democratic State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins ran unopposed for the 35th Senate District seat, nabbing more than 69,000 votes with 219 out of 305 districts reporting, as of late Tuesday night.
- New York’s senior Senator Chuck Schumer was re-elected for his fourth term with 4,789,385 out of 6,800,148 votes (70.40%), defeating Republican Wendy Long, and earning the seat as the chamber’s Democratic leader.
- Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring will serve a third term in New York’s 18th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger Phil Oliva 149,056 to 120,967.
- For the 16th district, Incumbent Democrat Eliot L. Engel was reelected against Derickson K. Lawrence, for the 16th Congressional District. The vote count was 65,472 for Engel and 2,741 for Lawrence.
District Attorney
- Democrat Anthony Scarpino, a former FBI agent and state Supreme Court judge, won the race for Westchester District Attorney over the Republican candidate, Bruce Bendish. He will be replacing DA James McCarty. Scarpino took 239,342 out of 344,254 Westchester votes, 69.5%.
- In the 88th District, Democrat Amy Paulin defended her seat against Republican challenger Anthony Decintio Jr., taking 37,729 out of 44,691 votes.
State Assembly
- In District 94, Republican Kevin Byrne defeated Democrat Brian Higbie with 62% of the vote in a district represented by Republican Steve Katz who didn’t seek re-election.
- Democrat Sandra Galef won the District 95 seat over Republican candidate Gregory Purdy with %70.6% of the vote.
- Democrat Ellen Jaffee took District 97 with 27,573 out of 45,284 votes (60.9%)
- The 98th District was taken by Republican Karl Brabenec with 27,266 out of 46,112 votes (59.1%).
- District 99 was taken by Democrat James Skoufis, with 27,501 out of 52,461 votes (52.4%).
State Senate
- District 36 was won by Democrat Jamaal Bailey by a 97.3% landslide against Conservative nominee Robert Diamond.
- The 37th District seat was taken by Democrat George S. Latimer with 66,751 out of 120,726 votes (55.3%).
- Democrat David Carlucci took the 38th District seat over Republican candidate Thomas DePrisco with 71,622 out of 110,666 votes (64.7%).
- Republican William J. Larkin Jr. was reelected to the 39th State Senate District seat, defeating Democratic challenger Chris Eachus 57,137 votes to 42,942.
- District 40 was taken by Republican Terrence Murphy with 74,354 out of 126,944 votes (58.6%), his challenger Alison Boak had 52,590 votes (41.4%).
- In State Senate District 41, with 261 of 271 districts reporting, Republican challenger Susan Serino took the seat with 68,354 votes, while Terry Gipson trailed in his attempt to take the seat back, receiving 53,920 votes.
- The 34th District seat was taken by Democrat Jeffrey Klein by a landslide 90.1% win, with 73,177 votes out of 81,205.
