Hidden six stories up from the hustle of Mamaroneck Avenue is a bastion of la belle France. By day, the Alliance Française hosts language classes, book clubs, and workshops. By night, discover author discussions, wine tastings, and other programs. For example, the Alliance hosts a monthly Tuesday-night cooking workshop at Estelle Gourmet in Larchmont. Sixty dollars includes a two-hour, hands-on class followed by lunch or dinner and wine, plus recipes to try at home. Monthly proposed menus are found at the Alliance’s website.

Belt out your favorite tunes at the Black Bear Sports Bar every Tuesday night from 8:30 until 4 a.m. closing. Draft beers for $3 a glass will help power you through each and every ballad. And yes, the bar still hosts “Karaoke Idol” when regulars request it.

Billed as a cross between a pub and a meeting ground, Growlers also hosts a free “Geeks Who Drink” trivia night on Tuesdays. First place earns a $50 gift certificate; second place gets $25; third place is rewarded with a beer growler. Local bands regularly rock onstage as well, so turn that growl upside-down and head on over.

Blueline’s indoor shooting range hosts friendly competition rifle and pistol leagues on alternating Thursday nights. Competition starts at 6 p.m., and rounds cost $5 each (four rounds max). Winners earn bragging rights and a gift certificate to Blueline’s shop. Shooters must be members of Blueline and possess a valid New York State pistol permit. Take aim at the range every night until 9 p.m.

Novice gamers are welcome, as are seasoned players. Sessions run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Can’t get enough? The WGG hosts a Saturday night session, as well, at Modern Myths in Mamaroneck. The $5 entry fee can be applied to drinks and snacks or toward an in-store purchase.
