Skyler Sack, leasing manager for GDC Rentals, a subsidary of Ginsburg Development Companies, always thought he was going to be a psychiatrist. “Growing up, no one ever really thinks, Hey, I want to make an impact in real estate!” says Sack.
But after getting exposed to the business world while studying entrepreneurial management and marketing at Tulane University, the Rye Brook native gave the field a try and turned out to be a star.
Since joining Valhalla-based GDC Rentals four years ago, Sack led four successful lease-ups: 106-unit Riverside in Haverstraw; 188-unit Harbor Square in Ossining; The Lofts on Saw Mill River, a 66-unit development in Hastings-on-Hudson; and now River Tides in Yonkers, with 330 units — where Sack runs the leasing department. He is currently the prolific management company’s number-one revenue generator, having leased 40 percent of The Lofts in five months and 50 percent of Riverside in six months.
Sack had a big obstacle to overcome along the way. Born with a congenital heart defect, he survived open-heart surgery in his early 20s and recently had surgery to replace his pulmonary valve. He took his first job as an assistant to a Keller Williams real estate salesperson while still recuperating.
Sack finds inspiration from working for GDC founder Martin Ginsburg. “His modus operandi is to acquire land that is deemed by others as too difficult or impossible to develop and create something beautiful,” Sack explains. “It is inspiring to work for someone who welcomes a challenge, thrives under pressure, and is able to pull it off with confidence. His vision is pure genius.”
