Train and Subway Cars
Commuters who take the Metro-North or NYC subway daily may be surprised to learn that they are assembled right here in Westchester. Yonkers’ Kawasaki Rail Car Inc., which has been in business since 1984, fabricates and safety tests the cars in a 150,000-square-foot waterfront building, after receiving the base mechanisms from a plant in Nebraska. On top of the subway and MTA trains, the Yonkers facility also builds cars for the Long Island Rail Road and Boston and Philadelphia’s transit systems.
