Where to Spend a Day Off: Playland, Marshlands Conservancy and the Rye Nature Center

When you need to blow off some steam, explore the great outdoors or visit Playland when it reopens on May 11.

Though it suffered damage from Superstorm Sandy and its future is in flux, Playland will open on May 11 and is still the best place to take a spin on some historic rides. Or you can enjoy the sunshine in one of Rye’s own nature preserves. At the Marshlands Conservancy (marshlandsconservancy.com), you can explore and relax while traversing 151 acres of wild land. This County-operated preserve has five distinct habitats including salt marsh, meadow, and shore. Its trails are open from dawn until dusk, so you have plenty of time to look around—or take that much-needed nap. For a more tame natural environment, consider visiting the Rye Nature Center (ryenaturecenter.org).
