Two Major Residential Projects Break Ground

A pair of new developments got underway as Toll Brothers kicked off work on a 421-unit luxury rental building in Harrison, while Megalith Capital Management and East & Hudson broke ground on a six-story apartment complex in New Rochelle. Carraway, the Toll Brothers’ new project, is a rental community built on the site of two former office buildings along the I-287 corridor at 103-105 Corporate Park Drive in Harrison. The project, which broke ground on August 15, is to be completed by 2020 and will also include retail space. Megalith’s new apartment, Printmaker, broke ground on August 16 and is to be built at 165 Huguenot Street in New Rochelle. The 71-unit residential building will include a fitness center, rooftop terrace, and features retail space on the first level.

 

Yorktown Eyes Adding Retail and Restaurants to Jefferson Valley Mall Redevelopment

The Yorktown Board is slated to hold hearings on September 5 and 19, when they will consider options for expansions to the Jefferson Valley Mall. The first hearing will address parking requirements for an 8,000-square-foot building that would hold two big-name quick service restaurants as well as a retail outlet. On September 19, the Board will reportedly review a proposal that would add a fitness center to the lower level of what is currently Sears at the Yorktown Heights shopping center.

Scarsdale-based Zachys Wine and Liquor Expands to D.C.

Local retailer Zachys Wine and Liquor recently opened a 20,000-square-foot operations center in Washington D.C. The facility, located at 3521 V Street NE, will include an event space, showroom, as well as a fully-refrigerated, temperature-controlled retail and storage outlet. Currently, the facility is only open for customer pickups and consultations by appointment only. Ahead, the Scarsdale-based company plans to hold auction simulcasts, bidding parties, wine seminars, and tastings at the center.

 

Irvington’s Eileen Fisher Joins First-ever New York State Council on Women and Girls

Eileen Fisher, Irvington resident and founder and chairwoman of Westchester-based EILEEN FISHER INC., has joined the steering committee of New York State’s first-ever council that recognizes and represents women’s equality. Earlier this month, Governor Cuomo launched the New York State Council on Women and Girls, which is composed of two parts: leaders of New York State agencies, who will work to ensure that every policy and program created and enacted has the intent to further advance gender equality within the state, and a Steering Committee, made up of leaders that come from outside of the state government and will work to help guide the Council’s work. The council will hold quarterly meetings and will focus its attention on equality within education, economy, and the workplace, among others.

MacQuesten Chosen by City to Construct New Multipurpose Tower in New Rochelle

​The City of New Rochelle has selected MacQuesten Development LLC to design and construct the city’s newest 27-story, mixed-use tower. The real estate development company was chosen to be the team behind the $120 million construction project after a competitive process. The new building will include 282 residential units — with apartments ranging in size from 425 to 1,200 square feet — about 9,500 square feet of ground-level retail space, a four-story parking garage, and room to build 50,000 square feet of office space, if desired. The site of the new tower is currently home to New Rochelle’s downtown fire station #1. However, MacQuesten will work with architectural firm Mitchell and Associates to design a new firehouse at an alternate, off-site location.

 

Tesla Eyeing Potential Locations in Greenburgh

Two vacant buildings in Greenburgh have caught the attention of electric car manufacturer and retailer Tesla Inc. and are in consideration to become the homes for their newest car dealership and customer education center locations. The two buildings reside on Tarrytown Road and Fairview Park Drive, respectively, and are less than three miles from each other. Nothing is a done deal, a Tesla spokeswoman says, as no decision has been made official and the company is also considering other locations. If all goes well, this would be Tesla’s third location in Westchester County.

 

Yonkers’ Public Housing Gets a Makeover

The City of Yonkers is slated to undergo a three-year, $300 million renovation project on more than 1,700 public housing units. The Municipal Housing Authority of the City of Yonkers launched the initiative in July, following five years of planning. Most of the city’s current public housing units are 40 years old. Renovations for residential units include new bathrooms, kitchens, roofing, flooring and boilers, as well as various other interior and exterior enhancements. Joseph Shuldiner, the executive director of the housing authority, says this project will affect 10,000 residents. Funding for the renovations is to be provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration Program.

Barile Gallagher Associate Opens Their New “Green” Corporate Headquarters in Pleasantville

Consulting engineering firm Barile Gallagher & Associates Consulting Engineers welcomed their new corporate headquarters in Pleasantville on July 13 with a ribbon cutting and grand opening. The firm was joined by Westchester Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett and Pleasantville Mayor Peter Schere, as well as other county executives and officials. The 39 Marble Avenue building is environmentally friendly and features state-of-the-art technology and equipment to sustainably maintain climate control. “For more than 40 years our firm has been on the forefront of designing environmentally-friendly buildings. Now it was time for us to walk-the-walk and make our own building a model of sustainability,” says principal partner Laurence Barile.

 

NYMC in Valhalla Awarded Research Grant from Federal Government

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $503,938 research grant to New York Medical College in Valhalla to support the work and research of Dr. Sachin Gupte, as announced by Congresswoman Nita Lowey on August 1. Gupte is an associate professor of pharmacology at NYMC, and studies vascular disease and heart failure. His lab is working to understand the relationship between metabolic adaptation and cardiovascular function through various techniques as they look for new ways to treat vascular and heart related diseases and deficiencies.

 

Preferred Home Care Expands Services to Westchester

Home health care agency Preferred Home Care, as well as their private-pay division Preferred Gold, has expanded their services to Westchester County and hosted a grand opening at their new White Plains office on August 8. The agency is a JCAHO accredited healthcare provider that serves more than 5,000 clients throughout the five boroughs, as well as various counties throughout New York State.

 

RM Friedland Posts Strong End to Second Quarter

Commercial real estate services firm RM Friedland concluded their second quarter with announcements of their financial accomplishments. Throughout Q2, the firm was able to close deals throughout Westchester County and the Bronx that totaled more than $15.1 million and 104,806 square feet of space, and additionally was able to secure executive listings for properties in White Plains, Yonkers, and Waterford, CT.

 

Westchester’s Sunrise Solar Solutions Joins Forces with SunPower

Briarcliff Manor-based Sunrise Solar Solutions LLC has recently announced its new partnership with solar innovation and sustainability company SunPower. Sunrise Solar Solutions serves as a major player within the solar installation world in Westchester County and Hudson Valley and provides services to both residential and commercial venues. Within this new partnership, Sunrise Solar Solutions works as a member of the SunPower Dealer Network and will exclusively offer SunPower’s EquinoxTM AC solar panels to its residential customers.
